The Ancient Spanish Monastery, located in North Miami Beach, Florida, is a fascinating historical site with origins dating back to the 12th century. Originally built in Sacramenia, Spain, as the Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux, this structure is a fine example of Cistercian architecture. In 1925, media mogul William Randolph Hearst purchased the monastery, dismantled it stone by stone, and shipped it to the United States. However, due to financial difficulties and Hearst's death, the stones remained in storage for over 25 years.
In the 1950s, the stones were reassembled in Florida, creating the stunning landmark known today. The Ancient Spanish Monastery is renowned for its beautiful cloisters, gardens, and chapels, making it a popular venue for weddings and cultural events. It serves as a serene oasis, offering visitors a glimpse into medieval European architecture and history. The monastery is not only a testament to historical preservation but also a unique piece of Spanish heritage in the heart of Florida.
